Guides by age

Every age has its own questions. We meet you there.

Tell us your children's ages and you get the guides that fit, from first school years to the last year before adulthood.

6–9

Building habits

Bedtime routines, first rules for screens, breakfast that keeps them going through the school morning.

10–12

More independence

The first phone, gaming, friends and activities. Setting limits together instead of for them.

13–15

Big changes

Later nights, social media, puberty and school pressure. How to stay close when they pull away.

Sleep

How much sleep does my child need?

Sleep affects concentration, mood and growth. Many children who seem tired during the day are simply not getting enough of it.

6 to 12 years9 to 12 hours
13 to 18 years8 to 10 hours
  • Keep bedtime within about an hour of the school-night time at weekends.
  • Turn screens off an hour before bed.
  • Charge phones and tablets outside the bedroom.
  • Talk to a doctor if your child snores loudly or is often exhausted despite enough sleep.

Screens

Screen time without daily arguments

Rules hold better when children help make them and when they apply to the whole family. What your child watches, and when, matters as much as the number of minutes.

  • Agree the rules together and write them down.
  • Keep meals and bedrooms screen-free, for adults too.
  • Use the age guide as a ceiling, not a target.
  • Swap time rather than only removing it: outdoors, friends, sport.

Based on the Public Health Agency of Sweden's 2024 recommendations on screen use for children and young people.

Movement

How much should children move?

Children and young people aged 5 to 17 should average at least 60 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous activity, the kind that makes them breathe harder.

  • Count play, cycling and walking to school, not only sport.
  • Include activities that strengthen muscles and bones three days a week.
  • Break up long periods of sitting, especially in front of screens.

Food

Food that keeps energy steady

Regular meals help children keep their energy and concentration through the school day. You decide what is served and when; your child decides how much to eat.

  • Aim for breakfast, lunch, dinner and one or two snacks at regular times.
  • Offer water as the everyday drink, and keep sweet drinks for occasions.
  • Put fruit and vegetables on the table at every meal.
  • Eat together when you can, without screens at the table.

Based on the Swedish Food Agency's dietary guidelines.

If the worst happens

When your child is seriously ill, you should not have to find your way alone.

A serious diagnosis turns a family's life upside down overnight. Through Life by Molliora, our medical team helps you understand the situation, find the right specialists and coordinate the care, in your country or abroad.

  • A medical review of the diagnosis and treatment plan
  • Second opinions from leading paediatric specialists and children's hospitals
  • Help finding clinical trials and new treatment options
  • Coordination of records, appointments, travel and interpreters
  • One contact who stays with your family the whole way

We work alongside your child's own doctors, never instead of them. In an emergency, always call your local emergency number first.
